ABOUT COACH MARRA

Coach Harry Marra has been called the maestro of the multi-events. He has close to 50 years experience in Track & Field, conditioning, athletic performance, youth physical fitness and higher education teaching and coaching. Coach Marra has traveled extensively around the world representing the USA with many athletes. Coach Marra served as Head Coach of the USA National Decathlon Team from 1990 to 2000 and was a founder of the USA/VISA Decathlon Program. During that time, the team set every possible World Record in the decathlon, highlighted by Dan O'Brien's gold-medal victory in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. He also was the 2016 IAAF World Coach of the Year and the 2012 Nike Coach of the Year.

Coach Marra retired from day to day coaching immediately after the final Decathlon Event of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. There, his two athletes, Ashton Eaton and Brianne Theisen-Eaton, won gold and bronze in the Decathlon and Heptathlon.

No coach in the long history of the Olympic Games has ever had two athletes in the same Olympics win medals in the Decathlon and Heptathlon.

Ashton broke 11 World Records under the tutelage of Coach Marra. Since then, Coach Marra has traveled the world coaching and teaching young coaches. It has been well documented that Coach Marra "has a keen eye for technical flaws in all aspects of sport and human movement." Gold Medal Motion (GMM) is an outgrowth of that teaching.

Coach Harry Marra with GMM provides in-depth analysis and correction of athletic movement skills - an incredibly important aspect in most performance athletics. Coach Marra not only points out the technical flaw you or your athlete might have in a sport skill, but more importantly, shows you exactly where and why the technique broke down. He then writes a simple training plan on how to correct the problem. Coach Marra has successfully accomplished this unique teaching approach over his entire career, evidenced by being the recipient of the prestigious George Dales Teaching Excellence in Track and Field Award in 2017. Coach Marra has developed this art of communication and instruction with athletes from grade school all the way through to the Olympic Games.

Coach Marra provides a range of services, which include:

  • One-on-One Instruction

  • Group Instruction

  • Video Analysis

  • Clinics/Public Speaking.

CHECK OUT COACH MARRA'S BOOK

Forward Written by Olympians Ashton Eaton & Brianne Theisen-Eaton

Having taken nine years in the writing of the manuscript, Coach Harry Marra presents to you a book that is REAL, HONEST, and FUN-FILLED in its words. Instead of just pontificating on a particular idea or concept, Stories From the Passenger Seat: Lessons Learned From a Lifetime of Coaching gives you real life, real live actual situations where world class athletes came to a crossroads and describes what they actually did to negotiate them successfully.

Stories From the Passenger Seat gives the reader a first-person account of being in an Olympic Stadium, sitting alongside Coach Marra, and having to make critical decisions that will dictate the outcome of the contest. Reading specific vignettes throughout the book will have you on the edge of your seat in anticipation of the outcome, much the same as a mystery novel might do.

If each reader learns and/or develops one new trait that may help them better negotiate the “road of life” by reading this book, then it will have been an effort well worth the time of jotting these stories down.

Enjoy your journey.
